Tuna Melt Sandwich

A classic tuna melt sandwich made with a flavorful tuna salad, American cheese, and served with salt-and-vinegar potato chips.
Ingredients
- 80 ml mayonnaise
- 60 ml minced bread and butter pickles
- 7.5 ml yellow mustard
- 0.5 tsp
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp onion powder
- 60 ml extra-virgin olive oil
- 280 g yellowfin tuna packed in water, drained and squeezed dry
- 80 ml minced red onion
- 80 ml minced celery
- 0.5 tsp Tabasco sauce
- some to taste Salt
- 90 g unsalted butter
- 8 slices rye bread (or other sandwich bread)
- some to serve salt-and-vinegar potato chips
- 6 slices American cheese
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced pickles, mustard, vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
- Gradually stir in the olive oil until the mixture is well combined.
- Add the drained tuna, minced red onion, and minced celery to the mixture. Stir until everything is evenly distributed.
- Season with Tabasco sauce and salt to taste. Set aside.
- Spread the softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on a work surface. Top each with a slice of American cheese.
- Evenly distribute the tuna salad over the cheese slices.
- Top with another slice of cheese, then the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the sandwiches on the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Serve hot, with salt-and-vinegar potato chips on the side or in the sandwich for added crunch, if desired.
