Pita Bread

This homemade pita bread is soft, puffy, and flavorful, it's just as delicious plain as it is with a topping or dip.
Ingredients
- 180 ml
- 2 tsp
- 1 tbsp
- 500 g
- 1.5 tsp
- 45 ml
- 2 dl
Steps
- Combine water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar in a medium bowl. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix flour, salt, and remaining sugar. Add yeast mixture, oil, and yogurt. Mix and knead until soft and slightly sticky, 7 to 10 minutes.
- Transfer dough to an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C). Line baking sheets with parchment.
- Divide dough into 12 balls, cover, and let rise 20 minutes.
- Roll balls into 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick circles. Place on baking sheets an inch apart.
- Bake until puffy and lightly browned, about 8 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
